So sometime around the end of March, I decided to dye my hair because I was getting bored with my virgin black hair and I felt that it was time I changed up my look a bit. I've actually always been thinking about dying my hair but was always hesitant. I was always scared of frying my hair and not getting the color and shade I wanted. After talking about it with a bunch of friends, I finally got the courage to just do it!
I wanted to go a few shades lighter than my natural hair color and I wanted something red-brown. After browsing a few different brands, looking at what was available to me and the prices, I found Palty's Raspberry Macaroon on Amazon for around $16 (included shipping).
Since I am a total hair-dying noob, I asked Tina to help me out. We just followed the instructions found in the box, which were clear and straightforward. The dye itself didn't smell TOO bad. It did have that ammonia aroma you would expect but it was tolerable. Since I don't have that much hair, I was able to use about 3/4 of the bottle to fully coat my hair in dye. We just used the rest to really saturate my hair with the dye. We let it sit for about 30 minutes, and then I washed it out with shampoo twice. I applied the hair serum that came with the dye and air dried my hair.
Before: After:
*note: the 'after' picture is actually a fairly recent picture (about 2 weeks ago?) I totally forgot to take a picture right after I dyed my hair and this is the best picture I could find ^^' if you look very very closely...you might be able to see my roots... e.e
So as you can see from the picture up top, my hair is a pretty shade of brown. ^^ The only thing I would have to say that I wasn't happy with is that it isn't as red as I hoped it to be. It is a pretty warm brown but not exactly what I was looking for. But that's ok because I'm happy with how my hair looks! While my hair wasn't as soft as it was prior to dying my hair, it was still a lot softer than I thought it would be right after dying my hair. After using various hair products and homemade hair masks, my hair is nice and healthy just as it was before I dyed my hair.
I dyed my hair about 3 months ago now and so I have about an inch or two of root growth. Under most lighting, it doesn't look bad at all (like the picture above c:)! There isn't an harsh line and the color seems to blend nicely with my natural hair color. However, in harsh lighting, the roots do look very noticeable and the contrast is pretty bad. But overall, I'm happy with this hair dye! :)
